The Bone Ships Review by Chris Joynson

The Bone Ships by RJ Barker, a thrilling and often brutal introduction to a truly unique world. Set in the Hundred Isles, where generation after generation has known nothing but war, the inhabitants using the bones of ancient dragons to build their ships and lay waste to their enemies. Yet the war drags on and there are very few bones left to build ships with, but that might all be about to change. For the first time in a very long time, a dragon has been sighted and it’s up to a crew of criminals and misfits to guard the beast as it makes its journey across the Isles. They’ll face the myriad dangers of the sea, as well as raiders and opposition from both sides of the war, but with a little luck and a lot of work they might just survive ‘til the end. Sadly luck is a hard thing to come across in the Hundred Isles and the Hag welcomes all those who are unfortunate.

Beware of Sleeping Dragons. They dream of a world not our own… Welcome to Escafeld, a city in the northern lands of Terra. Although Terra might look like the real world in places, I assure you this is purely coincidental. This is a collection of tales from throughout Terra’s long and varied history; from the clashing of Empires and Dragons in the Age of Dreams; the rise of technology and tyranny in the Age of Hammers; the modern mysticism of the Age of Spirits; and finally the Age of Infinity, when Terra reached out to the stars.

Bone Ships, Assassins and Memory Investigations

Yesterday we held our first Evening At Escafeld of the year and it was a wonderful night. We had the fantastic RJ Barker talking about his next trilogy, starting with the Bone Ships due for release September sometime, as well as reading from Blood of Assassins with his usual style.  Then we had the brilliant Dan Godfrey reading the first chapter of his latest release, The Synapse Sequence and talking about the clash between A.I. led investigations and memory-viewing.
